Foamie Mini Ultra Stick
By Cale Sherry 1/27/2007 9:10:22 PM
The Foamie Mini Ultra Stick began as a chance to build a corded wing out of depron. It has a double corded wing for inverted flight and better aerobatics. The wing was constructed out of 3mm depron spars glued perpendicular to a 3mm sheet of depron. To get the depron to curve the back end was scored with a pizza cutter allowing the depron to bend without breaking.
The bottom of the fusalage and the bulkheads were made out of 6mm depron and the sides were constructed out of 3mm depron to reduce weight. It is powered by an Eflite Park 400 that can pull the plane straight up into the air. The entire project took about two weeks from start to flying.
There were no plans to building the plane just eyeballing it from the pictures of other ultrasticks. If we were to build another we wouldn't make the cord on the wing quite so big, It provides so much lift to the point its actually adding drag to the plane, so its top speed isnt there, but it can float in for a landing.
